Jerry was a tough guy but not in a bad way.. He was  an All State football player and was  a State champion wrestler at Grady High School  3 years in a row.. Jerry was offered a full scholarship by numerous colleges to play football.. He chose the University of  Florida and became a GATOR. He served our country in Viet Nam and received both  the Silver Star and the Bronze star for his valor. He saved many lives..I know we are all grateful for his service.. He and I had a great relationship we were always "jawing and kidding" each other. We had a lot of fun. I know Jerry loved all of his family and friends,. Brother Steve, sister-in-law Barbara, cousin Nicky (Jordan ) and of course Rita his beautiful wife of 50 years..  Gone to soon but never forgotten !

Love you Brother ! , Bubba and Peggy Stevens

Farewell to Jerry

Its when one person shares with another, Sister to Sister or Brother to Brother.

It may have been words of youthful friends like Jerry, Bubba, Starke or Rod.

But surely it was with the grace of God.

Now - One evening an old man, cold and grey, was going down a lone highway.

He came across a chasm that was vast, deep and wide through which was flowing a sullen tide.  Well the old man crossed in the twilight dim. Those dangerous waters had no fear for him.

But when he was safe on the other side, he turned and built a bridge back to span that tide.

OLD MAN, said a pilgrim standing near, you're wasting time building here.

Your journey will end with the end of the day and you never again must pass this way. You have already made it to the other side.

SO - WHY BUILD YOU THIS BRIDGE AT EVENING TIDE? Well the old man lifted his grey head and said, on the path I've come today a youth will come whose feet must pass this way.  That chasm that was naught to me to that fair-haired youth a pit-fall may be.  He too must cross in the twilight dim. Good Friend, I BUILD THIS BRIDGE - NOT FOR ME - I BUILD THIS BRIDGE FOR HIM.

So, Its one person talk'en with another - sister to sister or brother to brother - it may have been the words of youthful friends like Jerry, Bubba, Starke or Rod -

But surely, - It was with the grace of God.

Now I've taken some liberties with the words just sighted out loud.  I hope the author will forgive me but I hope it would have made old Jerry proud.

Farewell to you Cuz Jerry
