Part 2
Here’s the slightly longer version –

Oglethorpe was a wonderful experience – BA there, then MA at UGA. Got married in there somewhere (at 18!) and spent a year in London writing my thesis . I got to work in the old reading room of the British Museum – now demolished –with the ghost of Karl Marx on my shoulder and access to all the Shakespeare folios and ancient documents as I researched Sir Thomas Wyatt.

We moved from our house in the country on Paper Mill Rd (It was so far out!) to Leona Valley shortly after Lillian was born. There I have been ever since – with lots of travelling and learning in between, two more daughters- Meredith and Andrea, and another marriage as well (31 years ago to Stan, my bff…).

I entered the education field as so many do – through my own daughters’ preschool experience, discovering that, really, one can take a passion for Renaissance Literature anywhere – including preschool, elementary, school, middle school… (now that was a gig – for quite a few years I taught at the euphemistically called “community day school” with a room full of (mostly) boys on probation, often with gang affiliation, and always with a variety of social dilemmas standing in the way of their success.)

I returned to graduate school, too, becoming a reading specialist and leader for the amazing Reading Recovery program, training teachers from many districts, travelling to do so and bringing so many little guys to full literacy.

Now I’m winding down my education career, holding on only to a few graduate seminars every year or so and adjunct teaching at community college. What interests me now is taking a different path to internet entrepreneurship – I’ll let you know how that turns out when we have our 75th reunion!

This beautiful corner of the high desert has been home for over forty years. I never thought my children would all be California Girls -- and how much I would come to love this spare and open landscape.

We are in concert-going distance of LA -- and go often. We love the beach -- and have a tiny place in Ventura. But Leona Valley truly feels like home.

Great Basin sage and wind swept hills . . . coyote, meadowlark, jackrabbit and bobcat country. Any surroundings will do, however, if the foreground is full of grandchildren -- so we are bound for Boise when the house sells.

More later perhaps -- or just ask! I've been busy hiding for years, and have found it's more fun to be in touch!
